Roles & Responsibilities

THE ROLE:

Responsible for driving forward the business development and marketing activities of the Singapore office.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Business Development, Asia, and working closely with the Senior Marketing & Business Development in Thailand, the successful candidate will closely support 10 Partners and actively promote and facilitate Singapore office activities, including business development cross-selling opportunities across Asia offices and beyond, across both practice groups and sectors.

This role is essential to help drive forward the firm's client development efforts across SE Asia, linking with our overall strategic goal to achieve the potential of our firm by winning global mandates from global clients. It will have a particular emphasis on inbound and outbound Singapore client work, including actioning and facilitating the firm's initiatives such as supporting key accounts, buyer group activities (such as WIN, DLA Piper's programme for in-house lawyers) and international programmes.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pitching – Lead on Singapore office practice group pitches and capability statements in line with firm guidelines. Working closely with other Asia office teams, maintaining a suite of local capability and pitch materials that is easily accessible and in line with our firm’s house style. The role will also assist in providing marketing services support and consultancy advice to other offices.
  • Database Management - Work with office teams to implement local deal capture processes and ensure that fee earners enter relevant deal information in the firm's deal and matter database and oversight and maintenance of CVs for fee earners in the Singapore office. Ensuring the practice group client distribution lists are established and maintained in InterAction.
  • Marketing and Business Development - Prepare collateral and business development plans supporting the Singapore office and industry sectors across Asia, ensuring they are updated on a regular basis. Ensuring the firm’s digital stock is relevant and up-to-date. Assisting on the implementation of business development, branding and communications activity, including PR and internal communication.
  • Client Focus – Working closely within our client programme, to understand and connect with our key clients, aimed at growing our client relationships
  • Opportunity spotting – Researching and identifying Singapore client inbound and outbound opportunities in the Asian market.
  • Internal network – Connecting with practice group and sector colleagues and leaders around the globe to align the Asia strategy with our global and practice strategies.
  • Directories and Awards – Preparation of selected directory and award submissions relating to the Singapore office and relevant sectors, including Chambers, Legal500 and IFLR. Working with office teams to ensure local practice submissions are aligned with, and include similar messages to, the regional submissions. Preparation of submissions for relevant award ceremonies.
  • Events – Propose, promote and execute the firm’s practice group events, including the coordination of any local sponsorships and associated events. Working with practice group teams, coordinating speaker engagements for fee earners.
  • Strategic initiatives – Implementation of firm wide strategic marketing initiatives in Asia, including the firm's client programme and other practice group initiatives. Advising the Singapore office practice group partners on all relationship management and business development efforts. Contributing to the development and management of competitive products and services.
  • Other - Handle any other duties and responsibilities as identified from time to time by Senior Managers and the Head of Marketing and Business Development - Asia.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Key relationships are essential for the success of this role. This position will interact heavily with all levels of the firm around the globe, including:

  •  Head of Business Development, Senior Managers and marketing executives
  •  Practice Group and Sector Lead Partners
  •  Client Relationship Partners and account managers
  •  Sector and client leads around the globe

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar roles ideally within an international professional services firm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Be IT literate - experience of MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook is essential; experience of using InterAction/CRM systems would be beneficial.
  • Display a consistently positive attitude and a "can do" approach, the ability to stay calm and composed in often demanding situations
  • The ability to work well both on own initiative and collaboratively as part of a team, having a sense of ownership and seeing delegated tasks through to completion at a high standard.
  • Embrace change, modifying behaviours and attitudes where necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy, including the ability to network internally across different Countries and cultures.
  • Excellent project management skills to meet multiple deadlines at a time, dealing with demanding workload and conflicting priorities.
  • Strong client development skills, preferably gained in an international organisation.
  • The ability to think strategically and to analyse issues so as to identify creative solutions.
  • A professional approach, score highly in terms of commitment and internal client care.
  • Commercial awareness in both approach and delivery.
  • A sound understanding of professional marketing approaches and new business issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to see the big picture and provide useful advice and input across the firm, contribute information and ideas as part of the strategy process.
